Why Credentials Matter
Virginia DPOR's contractor consumer statement, reviewed 19 October 2026, says a Class A license is required at $150,000 or more, a Class B license from $30,000 up to that amount, and a Class C license above $1,000 and below $30,000. Those are state license thresholds, not a Loudoun Decks price. The statement is at dpor.virginia.gov. Unlicensed work can leave a homeowner with:
- No legal recourse if work is defective
- Personal liability if a worker is injured on your property (no workers' comp)
- Unpermitted work that must be disclosed (and possibly demolished) at home sale
